Baking

There has been less sewing and more baking around here the last few days. I think it has been the change in the weather. Finally a few cool days so I didn't mind having the oven on during the day.

- Lots of tomato pasta, especially pasta with tomato, rosemary and bacon.

-Pretzels are always a winner around here. From this recipe.

-More experimenting with no knead sour dough bread. There was a complete disaster a few weeks ago, but I have nearly found something that works for me.

-Chocolate Mint Brownie from the current Delicious magazine. (One of the yummiest things I have EVER made.

-Vanilla Bean Ice cream from Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams (love this book)

Navy Blue Cardigan

Amelia hardly ever wears warm jumpers even in the middle of winter so she asked me for a short sleeved cardigan. She chose the Jane pattern in navy blue. It is a great pattern , really easy to follow and was finished in a couple of weeks and will be perfect all year round. More details on ravelry.

Finished Cross Quilt

I quilted the cross quilts with random straight lines going in all directions (some of them quite wonky). Backed and bound with some Amy Butler fabric and now ready to be posted.

Flea Market Fancy

My Pinwheel quilt out of Flea Market Fancy has been half finished for sooooo long. I am not sure why. I love the fabric, love the colours, love the pattern and it is going to look great on our brown couch. I have finally sewn the rows together and this morning I basted it so hopefully this week it will be quilted.

Cross Quilt

Today was my first full day with all 3 girls at school. It is amazing at how much you can get done with no children around. There has been progress on pattern writing, on getting my Etsy shop sorted and the top of the cross quilt is finished. I love how these blocks are so quick and easy to make. I did end up cutting them back to 10.5 inches so the blocks will be 10 inches finished.

Baby Quilt

The start of a quilt for a very new little baby boy.
I am starting with 12.5 inch blocks which will probably be cut down to 10.5 inches.

Flitter Flutter Pattern

I am slowly getting back into the school routine. Evie has slowly been building up to a couple of full days a week at kindy so there as been lots of trips to drop and pick her up and then to drop and pick up the twins. So sewing time has been hard to find. I have managed to find time to write up my butterfly pattern that was in Homespun last year as a PDF. It is now available here and here.

Hair Elastics

I pinned this tutorial on pinterest a little while ago. I made some buttons but there was no way I could thread the elastics through the back of the button. I am probably not telling any of you out there anything new, but it did take until this morning for me to work out a way to do it.
Thread a piece of string (I used a scrap of sock yarn) through the elastic and then both ends through the hole.
Pull firmly and it will pop through and you can tie a knot.

Fabric Combinations

I am not allowing myself to start something new without finishing something, but I don't think playing around with fabrics and making piles counts as starting something new.

School and Sewing

The twins started year 2 yesterday in different classes and Eva is at her first morning of kindy this morning and, fingers crossed, everything seems to be going ok. So I have a few hours to myself. The downside to this is that everyone asks you "what will you do with all this free time?". Umm actually get some work done, maybe I won't be sewing at all hours of the night, those toy patterns I promise people in emails I will get around to writing, I may actually get around to writing them, and the ideas I jot down in notebooks maybe I will get to try some of them.
The first job today - a quilt that has been sitting half finished for well over a year and hopefully a little pattern writing.
My Wagon Wheels pattern is now up at the Fat Quarter Shop and also in my store.
In sewing news the New Look 6429 dress I made over a year ago has been worn and worn - it is perfect in really hot weather so I made another in a cotton black and white spot jersey.
